https://tinyurl.com/mdanielf25Join Jewish studies for Sunday brunch with Max Daniel, who will discuss North African Jews in Christian South Carolina: Slavery, Diplomacy, and Religion across the Atlantic.
Max Modiano Daniel, Jewish Heritage Collection coordinator for College of Charleston Libraries, presents an alternative perspective on 19th-century American Jewish history that looks at the roles played by North Africa and its Jews, with a focus on South Carolina. As individuals enmeshed in controversies of U.S. foreign diplomacy, transcontinental human trafficking and enslavement or even Presbyterian theology, Jews with ties to North Africa challenged many of our assumptions about politics, race and religion in the antebellum South.
