Join us for "Shedding Light on Voices from the Margins," an insightful presentation by Ana M. Carvalho from the University of Arizona!

Carvalho will provide a sociolinguistic contextualization of bilingual communities in northern Uruguay and share her experience in developing the documentary Voices from the Margins, featuring first-person narratives from Uruguayan-Portuguese people about their language experiences. Additionally, she will argue that these documentaries can play a pivotal role in reshaping perceptions of minoritized dialects by illustrating how speakers embrace, resist and challenge the dominant linguistic ideologies that sustain the marginalization of minority languages.
