Mt. Pleasant Performing Arts Co. presents this classic tale of the Nutcracker. It begins at the Breher family annual Christmas party. The last to arrive is Clara Breher's favorite godfather, Drosselmeyer, with his young toymaker protégé nephew. He entertains the children with his magic and stories. Clara receives a gift, a Nutcracker and Fritz, her brother, out of jealousy, breaks it.

After the party dies down, Clara sneaks down to the parlor to check on her Nutcracker. So exhausted, she rests on the couch and falls asleep. She is taken on a journey where things become larger than life. Her Nutcracker grows to a life size soldier, and leads his small platoon to victory over the Mouse Queen.

Clara is then taken to a land of snowflakes to finally arrive at the Kingdom of Sweets, where she is entertained. She finally awakes to realize that it was all just a dream.
