The Faculty Lecture Series presents "Caribbean Music on the Global Stage: Bad Bunny, Shakira, and J.Lo at the Super Bowl."
Join David Dulceany, assistant professor of Spanish, for a talk and discussion about the global presence of Caribbean music and culture at the 2020 and 2026 Super Bowl halftime shows.
By tracing the diverse genres in these performances (reggaeton, salsa, Champeta, mapale, hip-hop fusion, etc.) and their cultural expression, this talk will explore how the artists Bad Bunny, Shakira and J.Lo used music, intricate staging and symbols of cultural nationalism in order to promote cultural unity in the face of rising xenophobia toward Latin American and Caribbean communities in the United States.
The event is part of the Faculty Lecture Series presented by the College's Friends of the Library and the Honors College.
The talk is free and open to all, no registration required. Free lunch will be provided, and all are welcome!
